traditional branch byproduct, strongly influenced by speed metal, the power metal had broken up the “placenta” in the late 1970s, early 1980s. Those bands featured a sound driven by striking refrains and sharp guitars. The lyrics were about fantasy, folklore and ancient history - almost a sort of RPG game with distortion. It also brought up the use of keyboards and an intimate relationship between classical music and metal in general, influencing modern subgenres such as symphonic, gothic and folk metal. Although it has lost appeal among the hairy ones, it remains firm until nowadays, maintaining intact the epic character that aggrandizes the heavy metal since the beginning.
